The Minimi machine gun

Produced after the extremely successful FN FAL rifle, the FN Minimi light machine gun was designed to counter the technological advance represented by the introduction of the Soviet-designed PKM machine gun. The widespread use of the 5.56X45 mm caliber soon meant that the Minimi met with the same success as its forebear the indestructible FN MAG 58 machine gun in 7.62x51 mm.

Since its introduction in 1974, this FN Herstal machine gun has been the perfect illustration of the concept of the infantry direct fire support weapon, trusted in over 45 different countries and proven in over 15 conflicts, including Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2010 and after 36 years of sterling service, the FNH Minimi remains more than ever the archetypal light machine gun and it well deserves its nickname of the « SAW of the Free World ».
