Le quintet de métal alternatif et de death metal DevilDriver a vu le jour en 2002 aux États-Unis à Santa Barbara, en Californie, sous la direction du charismatique chanteur Dez Fafara. Vétéran du mouvement NuMetal, Fafara travaille dans les tranchées de l'industrie musicale depuis 1994 avec son groupe précédent, Cold Chamber. Signé à l'origine sur Roadrunner Records, le groupe comptait également les guitaristes Jeffrey Kendrick et Evans Pitts, le bassiste Jon Miller et le batteur John Boecklin. Le quintette de Californie du Sud n'a cessé de progresser depuis qu'il a fait un trou dans l'esprit du temps en 2003 avec son premier album éponyme.
