Pour accompagner le grand coffret consacré à l'intégralité des enregistrements de Rostropovich chez DG, Decca et Philips, le label jaune fait paraître ce seyant digipack 3CDs, présentant une sélection des plus belles pages de la carrière discographique de celui qu'on surnommait Slava. Se trouvent dans ce triple-album notamment la légendaire interprétation du Concerto pour violoncelle de Dvorak avec Karajan la Sonate pour violoncelle de Chopin avec Martha Argerich, ou encore la Sonate pour violoncelle n°1 de Brahms avec Rudolf Serkin. Violoncelliste, chef d'orchestre, mais aussi pianiste et compositeur aguerri, Rostropovitch fut décrit par l'un de ses élèves, David Geringas, comme "un univers entier à lui-seul". Slava !
