Les visionnaires musicaux Keith Emerson et Greg Lake prévoyaient cependant de reformer ELP en 1984 mais le batteur Carl Palmer n'était pas disponible (il jouait avec ASIA à cette période). Dans ce cadre entra le légendaire Cozy Powell, surtout connu pour son travail avec Rainbow et Whitesnake. Seule et unique sortie studio du groupe : « Emerson Lake and Powell » avec trois bonus tracks, leur album live « Live in Concert » et un CD de répétitions, « The Sprocket Sessions », sorti uniquement dans les années 90 en tant que bootleg. La collection comprend des notes de pochette rédigées par Jerry Ewing, rédacteur en chef de PROG Magazine, qui prend un regard médico-légal sur l'histoire courte mais percutante du groupe.
