Depuis les origines de la civilisation, Apocalypse, le tout premier mutant, a absorbé de nombreux pouvoirs, devenant à la fois immortel et invincible, adoré comme un dieu. John Ottman collabore régulièrement avec le réalisateur Bryan Singer.
